Staycation!!!

I always thought that Staycations were a little strange!  You go and pay money to stay some place that is an hour away from your house.  Well, it is a little different when it is FREE!!  My hubby was doing a convention in Salt Lake and so I packed up the girls and headed to Salt Lake for the night.  We stayed at the Little America hotel and the girls thought they were royalty or something.  They had bell hops opening the doors and the room was huge and fancy.

After we toured the hotel we walked to dinner at Olive Garden....even there we were given special treatment.  They put us in this big room with just us...it had a big table with lots of grapes hanging down from the ceiling.  The girls were wondering why we were so special!!  But it didn't stop there.  On our way walking back to the hotel, a guy came and picked us up in a carriage!  He asked where we were going and he said he was on his way there so just to jump in!!  The girls loved it!!!  And of course I didn't have my camera.

When we got back to the hotel the girls and dad headed to the swimming pool while mom took a nice long hot shower, climbed in my robe, crawled in my turned down bed, and ate the yummy chocolate they left on my pillow!  It can't get any better than that!

We finished off our little get-away by going to breakfast, which they girls thought was really weird.  Kena said, "I didn't know they have breakfast at restaurants".  We had a Blast!!  Thanks for the invite dad!!

Growing up...I can take much more!

I need my daughter to stop growing up! (She would totally kill me if she knew I put this on here so don't say a word)!  I didn't know that going into Middle School would be such a life changing event for my little girl.  She is loving it which I am very glad for.  But she has grown up a ton in the last month!! She has now started to shave her legs!  She was so excited but trying not to be.  She spent an hour in the shower that night and came out with the biggest grin on her face.  She loves her nice smooth legs!  It is amazing what girls are shaving these days.  Her friends also shave their arms, which I thought was weird but it might be a new thing and I am just behind the curve.  For now we are sticking to the legs only, not sure how I feel about the arm thing yet.  So we have been marking off milestones quickly bra...check, birds & the bees talk...check, new cell phone....check, and shaving....check.  Hopefully, the next milestone is further down the road.  But for now I am seeing my Shelby's life pass before my eyes.  It is going to go fast!  I am holding on as tight as I can!

Locks of Love

Today was a bitter/sweet day!!  Her beautiful locks are gone!!  I am kind of torn between my feelings!  I am sad because I loved her hair long.  But of all my kiddos she has the most tender head.  Long hair and a tender head make a recipe for some not so fun mornings.  It was so long that we just always pulled it up.  She never wore it down unless it was all curly and even then it would get all tangled. I guess you could never really tell how long it was.

Grama was here visiting and so we did it!  Lexi was begging her all morning to do it.  She was so excited to give her hair to someone who needed it.  It was so cute...the night before she was telling grampa what she was going to do with her hair and said, "I am going to give my hair to kids that need cancer".  We all knew what she meant but it was pretty funny.  Lexi has such a big heart and if there is a way to help someone else then she is all for it.  Even when it means to sacrifice her long hair that she loved.

We got all ready.  Put it in a pony, braided it, checked to exactly 10 in. with the ruler...over and over and over again.  Then snip, snip it was gone.  I was nervous about how she was going to feel afterward.  All there was.....was excitement!!  She loved it!!  All she did all day was brush it!  She could never really do that before without hurting her head.  She left it down for three whole days, which never usually happens.  I think it looks darling!!!  I am so proud of her, what a big heart she has!
